I called up Corie as soon as I woke up and we hit the thrift stores, Rita's Water Ice, and then ended the afternoon with a photoshoot. I just bought these shorts for $1.75 at the thrif store this morning, I adore them. Everything about today has just been inspiring. We have been blessed with great weather the past few days. Early this morning my mom and I went to our local consignment shop for their annual bag sale. When I say bag sale I mean they give you a big white shopping bag and you can fill it with whatever you want as long as it all fits, for just twenty dollars. Obviously we got there about an hour early and by the time 9am rolled around there was about fifty local women in line. When the doors opened I ran inside and bee-lined for the skirts and pants rack. As I was throwing a beautiful floor-length cashmere skirt into my bag I spotted this vintage sequin blazer glittering from the back of the coat rack. I literally lunged across the store to grab it. Making matters worse I am still recovering from my wisdom teeth surgery yesterday so I was a little bit sluggish, but I happened to snag it in time. By the end of the hour I had rolled up about 11 garments in my bag, handed the lady a $20 bill, and strolled out.

The Right Place At The Right Time

These past few days I have once again been frolicking around the city that never sleeps. I was actually there to take an overnight tour and some classes a LIM college, which you all probably know is the fashion school I will be attending in the fall. After classes Rachel (my roommate) and I went to Soho. We were on a side street taking pictures of each other for our blogs (above) when a very tall and well dressed man with a big fancy camera approached us. He asked Rachel and I if he could snap some pictures of us, for he was a photographer for Elle.com ! We agreed and he took a few shots and we wrote down what we were currently wearing. What a perfect case of being at the right place at the right time.

The day after Couture Fashion Week, my future college roomie Rachel and I spent the day in Brooklyn walking about Williamsburg. I have never experience so many amazing thrift stores. We hit up Buffalo Exchange, Beacons Closet, and a few more that I don't remember the names of. While Friday was 70 degrees and sunny, Saturday was 40 degrees and flurrying. Mother nature is having some serious mood swings. We took shelter in Ella's Cafe and grabbed a bite to eat as we people watched through the window and took pictures with Rachel's fish eye camera. I have never seen so many beautiful people on one street.

COUTURE FASHION WEEK 2011

I just returned from Couture Fashion Week last night and let me tell you, it was amazing. Everything from the couture dresses to the bumping techno music made for a perfect show. The main point of my trip was to go meet my future LIM College roommate (a fashion college in NYC) Rachel. The night started off hustling from train to train to make it to the show on time and ended in Union Square, people watching and eating one dollar slices of pizza. We had the opportunity to see up and coming designers all over the world. It was such a beautiful event.

This morning I went to the Tower Hill school clothing sale. It is a little building on a local school's campus where all the wealthy parents drop off their gently used clothes so people like me can buy them ! My fabulous mom just bought me the best late birthday present ever ! She just gave me WWDs 100 anniversary magazine. I have a subscription to receive WWD everyday but this was just the icing on the cake ! It has amazing articles on everything you could ever imagine in the fashion world as well as galas and events. It is a must read for EVERY fashionista.
p.s. the cover page unfolds into this really sweet picture of all the fabulous people in the world (shown above). All the more reason to buy it!

This post is all about my new red coat. There is nothing I love more then that end of October shopping trip to find a staple coat for winter. Okay sure, maybe the staple coat this winter is suppose to be a Camel colored pea coat. Since I have chosen to do things a little different and be a little more vibrant I have chosen this siren red coat from H&M for only $60!

ps. my applications for the Laboratory Institute of Merchandising & the Fashion Institute of Technology have officially been sent in ! Hopefully this time next year I will be living in the big city that never sleeps ;)

This weekend I had the opportunity to go and visit LIM College (a college strictly for fashion) off of Madison Avenue in New York City. It was my first time driving in NYC, and I came close to hitting about 50 cars...mostly taxis. I'm sticking to the train for now on ! While I was in the city I had to go and raid the H&M on 5th Ave. My favorite purchase of the day was this really crazy scarf. The colors, design, fabric, everything is just amazing.

Happy 18th birthday to me ! Today I am proud to say I am officially 18 years old, transferred from a kid to an adult....sort of.... My mom bought me this dress a few months ago at the consignment shop Designer Consigner. Technically it is a skirt but if you did not know by now, wearing skirts as dresses is my thing.

Philadelphia Fashion Week

Last night my friend Corie (NYC Bound) and I got the chance to sit front row at Philadelphia Fashion Week! It was amazing to say the least. I sure enjoyed the all you could drink vitamin water zero and pop chips, not to mention the collections! I wore my brand new harem pans from H&M and some awesome new shoes by Coconuts. The entertainment was fabulous ranging from bands to near naked men swinging on cubes above the runway. More pictures to come ! xxx

I have driven in torrential rains to get to the Salvation Army before close, gotten up extra early on a Saturday to get to the Family Thrift Center, and left work early Friday so I could swing in Goodwill before I began my night. Today Corie from New York City Bound, and I went thrift store shopping! Our favorite after school activity of course! Our shopping trip was major...we scored so many amazing pieces. My two favorites ( I just can't pick one! ) would have to be my animal print silk shirt with the slit up the side and the beat up brown leather boots in the first picture. When I saw the boots I instantly imagined Kate Moss at a muddy rock concert in ripped jean shorts and socks peeking out of a worn in pair of brown leather boots...and with that image in my head these boots were sold ! Let me conclude with the fact that they were sold for $3.50 ;)

I am a little disappointed with the fact that you can not tell that all those little white dot looking things on my dress are actually little white hearts, and my glasses, that look like big round diva glasses are hearts as well ! When I got this dress last night the I instantly thought of Alexa Chung. I don't know why, it might be the European feel to it. This dress would be a laying piece I would use if I was ever to go to Paris. xxx

Yes, I just posted, and no this is not an outfit. BUT I decided to do the thing that most girls try to avoid. I chopped my hair off. It became very obvious to me that my typical side part, dead ends, straight, side bangs just were not cutting it anymore. With being so into the fashion industry I finally came face to face with that fact that my hair, was. not. stylish. at. all. So chop chop chop and there you go. Above I posted a before and after shot. It is hard to see in the pictures but a good 3-4 inches is now in a trash can somewhere.

I noticed something the other day while flipping through a WWD magazine (which still arrives in my mailbox every day!). I noticed that many designers are lowering the hemline on skirts. Hmm....I guess the mini skirt has seen better days. Since I can not afford to run out and purchase a 500 dollar mid-calf length skirt I decided to wear this black strapless dress as a skirt. Yes, I am wearing a dress as a skirt, styling tip! The shirt I am wearing looks creamish in these pictures, it is actually a very pretty victorian blue, just saying.

I can sum up yesterday in one word, disaster. Everything seemed to be crashing in on me and everything seemed to be falling apart. What do I do when I have days like this? GO SHOPPING !. I purchased this absolutly fabulous floral oversized oxford shirt. The material is silky, and it is amazing. I bought it at H&M, and I recommend it to anyone! Flowers and skull, interesting combination...but it works!

I discovered this purse in the back of my closet yesturday. Funny story, this is not a real Louis ! I know I know, "fakes are never in fashion", but the story behind this purse is such a classic New York City story. As I was walking down fifth ave these big creepy looking men carying burlap sacks ran in front of me and sprawled out the sacks. Well, inside were all these faux purses ! I mean I have bought fakes in New York millions of time on Canal Street (don't act like you have never bought a fake before !) , but never in the middle of Fifth Avenue! My eyes were quickly drawn to this Louis Vuitton purse. I pushed my way through a bunch of frantic women and grabbed my prize, payed the creepy man, and as I was saying thanks here comes multiple cops running up the street. I quickly made a run for footlocker with my illegal purse. Ooops;) As you can see I obviously made a quick and clean get away !

What better thing to do on a hot, muggy Sunday afternoon than to go on a shopping spree with one of your best friends and have a photoshoot! These photos were inspired by the blog fade to black which happens to be one of my all time favorite blogs. Of course I have to add my own twist to the outfit. I scored these faux-martins as I like to call them, at Forever21 a few weeks back and I love them ! Who ever said you can't wear black leather biker boots in the summer has some serious learning to do. Also I learned a new styling tip today from my friend and fellow blogger corie (www.nycb0und.blogspot.com). She talked me into buying a skin tight, black, cotton, tank top dress to wear underneath shirts that are in between a blouse length and a tunic. As you can tell by these pictures, it doesn't look half bad!

Im very obsessed with clothing. Yeah...we knew that. BUT what you did not know is I am also obsessed with extreme sports. Okay so maybe I cant personally DO any extreme sports, like surfing, bmx, skateboarding (maybe a little) but other than that, nothing. Yes I love the sun tanned, long messy hair, beachy surfer boys but whats even better is the awesome beachy surfer inspired style. It is so simple, fun and very summerish. Tye-dye, neon colors, and distressed jean shorts are staples, and that "I just rolled out of bed and heading to the beach" vibe is a must.

Well, this is my first photoshoot after returning from Jamaica (I am sure you can tell by my new found tanness). Anyways, my inspiration for this shoot today was Stevie Nicks. I also had an impulse to cut my bangs straight across my forehead. I was surprised at how good they turned out. I have been hanging around my friend Corie (maker of the blog NYC Bound) for the past two days and she is an 80's music and culture freak. Which I must say rubbed off on me in this shoot. Music seems to be inspiring my style more and more everyday.

So it is officially 48 hours til I board the plane and head to the exotic island of Jamaica. Sure, I cant wait to escape my small town in Delaware to experience a little slice of heaven on earth. Unfortunately, it is when you try to escape your life that the worst of it follows you. That's a story for another time... Anyways, about the outfit, my mom picked me up this skirt (worn as a dress) at a consignment shop in Hockessin, DE called Designer Consigner. It is actually by Max Studio which would normally be pretty pricey, which my mother, being the ultimate shopper, scored for only a fraction of the cost.

The culture of art in today's youth sure is different then what it was thousands of years ago. We have traded carving statues out of stone for a simple spray paint can. This post is not just about how the young people of our generation express themselves through graffiti, it is also about the art form I use to express myself. This is simply sewing. The blue romper I am wearing I actually made in one of my wardrobe planning classes in school. I have been searching high and low for a really cute printed romper, when the search did not work out, I decided to take matters in my own hands (literally) and stitch one together. The inspiration I used for these pictures was forms of art used to express ones individuality. Okay yeah graffiti on public places is illegal, but I must give these people credit. The art is amazing.

Do you remember how in my last post I wrote about finding the perfect pair of fabulous wedges? Well, I found them ! They are tan and the absolute perfect height. The outfit I am wearing in these pictures was inspired simply by music. The past few nights I have been shuffling through my moms old records. ACDC, Rolling Stones, etc. I love rock music, so I put together an outfit that describes me perfectly. Distressed jeans with safety pin accents, red cherry lips, and a flirty lace top. It is girly meets rocker glam which is absolutely wonderful.

I have become consumed, no, obsessed, with finding the perfect pair of wedges for summer. Obviously looking at the picture of Vanessa Hudgens above you can see she has found the perfect chic wedges. Why is it so impossible for me to stumble upon the perfect pair for my feet? I love the wedges above from Urban Outfitters, unfortunately I need a job before I can purchase these babies ! My ideal situation is for a pair of pastel, strappy wedges to appear before my eyes and less then 100 bucks. Pshhh, a girl can dream.

Tips For Wedges

Find the perfect heel for you, wedges tend to be platform so try on multiple pairs before you settle for one.

For an evening look pair wedges with skinny jeans a loose silky shirt for an easy, put together look.

Don't be afraid to try wearing socks with wedges. It is adorable !

Today as I was strolling through the neighborhood I saw that one house had this awkward red door (compared to the others on the block that were all white). I instantly drew a connection, the red door stood out and was different. My blog is called dare to be different. So I thought ahhhh what a fabulous place to take pictures. I was flipping through last months edition of ELLE magazine in my wardrobe planning class today when I saw a page dedicated to the reggae trend. Red, green, and yellow seem to be one of designers favorite color combinations for summer. Designers favoring this trend include Louis Vuitton, Blumarine, and Christian Louboutin. Lucky for me, I am a HUGE fan of reggae music so I have many rasta colored items. This summer I am traveling to Jamaica for the first time, perfect to pick up some reggae inspried pieces. A Few Precious Things

While laying arond my house suffering frm boredom...what else is new... I decided to take a fast trip to the mall. While there, the first place I went (obviously) was Forever21. As I strolled into the trendy store I realized that there was red, white, and blue striped EVERYWHERE. A whole section of the store seemed to be dedicated to the new sailor trend. The snow is finally starting to melt ! Words could not describe how happy I am about that. Summer just can not come fast enough. I decided to do some pre-spring cleanning in my room and I found a huge pair of wide legged jeans that I have only worn once. First I cut them, then I bleached them, then I used sandpaper to distress them even more. I think they turned out really well. I took before and after pictures of the shorts/jeans and I will upload them as part of my next post. Oh ! I just found out today I am going to Florida for spring break YAY ! Perfect time to break out my new shorts in the sunshine state. :)

Two Dollar Deal

So check this out. This dress that I am wearing was only two dollars ! Its an awesome sixties inspired piece. Shhh its actually a floor length skirt ;), but heres the cool part. If you live in northern Delaware chances are you have heard of Tower Hill School in Greenville. Well, every Thursday they have a clothing sale in this little house on the school campus. It is the best kept secret around thats for sure ! Anyways, it is where parents of kids who go to school at Tower Hill drop all their unwanted clothes off and then they sell them to people like me who cant buy a $500 pair of shoes whenever they please. Unfortunately, I never get the chance to go to the sale because I'm in school. On the positive side I have an extremely fashionable mother who knows exactly what I like, and when she saw this two dollar skirt on a mannequin this morning she knew it had my name on it. What can I say? I absolutely love it.

Sick Of Snow

Someone please help me ! I have been trapped in a house for over a week due to four feet of snow that has fallen outide. My two day weekend has turned into a ten day break. I feel like I have not been in school for months. I'm losing touch with reality, and it is not fun ! While suffering from chronic boredom I grabbed a pair of scissors and cut bangs straight across my forehead. As I was snipping the last strand I thought, what a perfect time for a blog post ! A man named Edmundo Castillo once said, "shoes should be like make-up for the feet." I bet when you saw "vintage valley" you thought I would be decked out in a bunch of high end vintage clothes. Well, guess again. Recently I have been asking everyone in my family for vintage jewelry and clothes. Turns out most of them sold it in previous garage sales, to my disappointment. On the positive note, I pulled together some of my favorite pieces of clothing and made them into a vintage inspired look. I have been browsing through every thrift store around my little suburbia to try to find some awesome pieces, haven't had much luck yet. I did happen to find a two dollar leopard print floor length skirt from Goodwill. Thanks to my new sewing skills courtesy of my clothing classes at school, I was able to shorten the skirt and use the extra fabric to make the leopard print headband I'm wearing in these pictures. I hope to one day be as lucky as the lady who found a one dollar red Versace leather skirt at the Goodwill near my house. Yes, that is a true story.

At the start of every year we all say the same thing, I'm going to start working out. Well, I know that's never going to happen for me. This is as close to working out as I will ever get in the year 2010. And just in case you are wondering, these pictures were takin in my dark, dirty, and just slightly nasty basement. Notice the water tank and wires in the background...yup its pretty creepy.

Oh I almost forgot, I went to Target yesterday to check out the new Rodarte line. Love it ! I am officially a fan. Too bad there was such a little stock of everything, so I could not find my size. My friend took these picture on a whim after school the other day. I wore this to school because I woke up feeling very vibrant and "electric". I had listened to my mom's old records the night before (in her new Urban Outfitters record player) and the classic rock albums inspired me to dig out my old Grateful Dead shirt and try to twist it in my outfit.
